Electoral Commission Announces Resumption of Elections in Libyan Municipalities


Zawiya: The High National Elections Commission (HNEC) has announced that elections in the municipalities of Al-Zawiya Central, Al-Zawiya Center, Al-Zawiya West, Al-Zawiya North, Sabratha, Surman, and Bir al-Ghanam will resume next Saturday, August 23.



According to Libyan News Agency, this announcement was made in a decision issued by the Commission today, in line with Article (45) of the Executive Regulations for the Election of Municipal Councils, Group Two, 2025. Voters in these Libyan municipalities have already headed to the polls to elect their municipal councils within Group Two.



The Commission expressed strong condemnation of recent attacks described as criminal. These attacks targeted the West Coast Electoral Administration Office building at dawn on Friday, resulting in its destruction by fire. Additionally, the Zawiya Electoral Administration Office suffered an attack leading to the burning of its main warehouse, which contained voting materials and a training hall meant for electoral staff preparation.
