New york: The House of Representatives has emphasized the crucial need to safeguard frozen Libyan assets abroad until the establishment of permanent state institutions. This call to action was highlighted during a meeting at the Russian Federation's Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York.
According to Libyan News Agency, the meeting focused on ensuring the full protection of Libyan assets, their revenues, and profits. The event was attended by Yousef Al-Aqouri, Chairman of the Committee for the Verification of Frozen Libyan Assets Abroad, and Dmitry Polyansky, Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the United Nations, along with committee members from the House of Representatives and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The House of Representatives spokesperson shared that discussions explored methods to enhance cooperation with Russia, aimed at preserving Libyan assets and preventing unauthorized interference. The dialogue also covered Libya's political and economic status, Russia's support for UN efforts to resolve the Libyan crisis, and potential areas for bilateral cooperation.
Russia's Ambassador expressed support for initiatives to protect Libyan assets, reiterating the Russian Federation's commitment to collaborate positively with Libyan bodies. In further discussions, the Verification Committee met with the UN Security Council Panel of Experts on Libya to assess the UN's system for managing frozen Libyan assets and to address current challenges in the freezing mechanisms.
The Committee proposed practical solutions to balance international duties with Libya's rights to safeguard its resources, aiming to resolve issues within the sanctions regime. Concluding its meetings, the Committee reaffirmed the House of Representatives' dedication to managing Libyan people's assets with transparency and accountability, aligning with constitutional mandates until permanent state institutions are established.
