Abdul Shafi Al-Juwaifi Commends Municipal Council Election Preparations

Tripoli: Abdul Shafi Al-Juwaifi, the Minister of Local Government in the Government of National Unity, praised the organizational conditions and preparatory measures for the second group of municipal council elections scheduled for 2025. In a statement issued on Saturday, Al-Juwaifi commended the efforts made by the High National Elections Commission and its technical staff, acknowledging their critical role in managing the electoral process and establishing the conditions necessary to ensure transparency, integrity, and impartiality at every stage.

According to Libyan News Agency, the Minister highlighted that voting successfully commenced in 26 municipal councils out of the 63 scheduled to participate in the second group of the 2025 elections. This information was corroborated by statements from the High National Elections Commission. However, he noted that the process was postponed in seven municipalities until August 23 due to attacks targeting some of the Commission’s centers and offices. Additionally, voting was suspended in 27 municipal councils in the eastern region due to these incidents.

Minister Al-Juwaifi called upon all relevant authorities in the municipalities where voting was suspended to intensify efforts and provide a secure environment to ensure the elections can be conducted as soon as possible, while safeguarding voters’ rights to select their representatives. He also expressed his gratitude to the Ministry of Interior for its role in securing and protecting polling stations, appreciating its ongoing cooperation with the commission to ensure the electoral process proceeds securely and with integrity.
