Tripoli: Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dabaiba emphasized the urgent need to bolster the General Electricity Company through comprehensive development programs and the financial backing of its vital projects. This directive was issued during his leadership of the first regular meeting of the General Assembly of the General Electricity Company for 2025, which aimed to evaluate the performance of the electricity sector, review past achievements, and plan for future advancements.
According to Libyan News Agency, the meeting, attended by key figures including the Chairman of the Board of Directors, Mohammed Al-Mashay, and members of the General Assembly, featured a presentation of the Board of Directors' report. This report detailed achievements in generation, transmission, and distribution, along with initiatives taken to enhance grid efficiency and address the growing energy demand.
The Director General of the General Electricity Company provided a comprehensive technical report on the company's performance throughout the current year. This report highlighted the status of production levels, loss rates, and significant maintenance projects. It also detailed existing and planned projects, notably those involving major power plants under construction with experienced foreign contractors, underscoring their strategic significance. Additionally, the report outlined operational plans for peak winter demand and included the auditor's report on the company's financial and administrative aspects.
Dabaiba advocated for improving electricity services for citizens, stressing the need for departmental coordination to maintain a stable grid year-round. He reiterated the government's commitment to prioritizing the electricity sector due to its critical role in service provision and development. The Prime Minister also called for the establishment of clear accountability mechanisms and monitoring processes to ensure substantive improvements in the nation's electricity infrastructure.
