Libyan Government Welcomes Berlin Meeting’s Support for Sovereignty and Elections

Tripoli: The Government of National Unity has expressed its approval of the outcomes from the recent Berlin meeting, appreciating the understanding shown by participating countries and their alignment with its vision.

According to Libyan News Agency, the Government of National Unity welcomed the final statement issued by the meeting's co-chairs. This statement emphasized respect for Libyan sovereignty, continued support for United Nations efforts, and the necessity to avoid any actions that could exacerbate divisions within the country.

The government's statement highlighted that its delegation at the International Follow-up Committee on Libya reiterated the need for proceeding directly to free and fair elections as the solution to the political crisis. These elections should be held on an agreed-upon constitutional framework, which the government sees as the only path to sustainable stability, avoiding initiatives that could prolong transitional phases and foster division.

Furthermore, the government affirmed its commitment to establishing the authority of the state through regular police and military institutions while eliminating any outlawed groups. This step is seen as essential for securing stability and protecting the political and constitutional trajectory of Libya.

The government acknowledged the understanding and responsiveness of the participating countries regarding its vision and emphasized its dedication to a Libyan-led process. This process aims to create elected institutions reflecting the popular will and ending fragmentation. The government also reiterated its commitment to collaborating with international partners to ensure the success of the political process and supporting United Nations efforts to fulfill the aspirations of the Libyan people for peace and development.
