ICSS President to QNA: “Sport Integrity Week” a Global Platform to Emphasize Transparency, Governance Standards -1-

He expressed his pride in the participation of prominent Arab academic institutions like Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) and Notre Dame University - Louaize (NDU) in the activities of the SIGA Sports Integrity Week 2023, stressing the importance of the move in protecting sport integrity and resisting corruption.

This is to ensure that sports continually serve as a source of inspiration for youth and children worldwide, promote unity among nations, foster peace, enhance dialogue and coexistence, preserve the environment and its resources, and build a cohesive society, he said.

He added that this collaboration builds upon a longstanding tradition established by the ICSS and its affiliated organizations, including SIGA, in cooperation with research institutions and universities. This collaboration which started with a partnership agreement with France's Universite Paris I Pantheon-Sorbonne on sports integrity in 2012, resulted in a joint study revealing that sports betting amounted to 500 billion Euros annually, and put sports money laundering at nearly 140 billion euros annually.

He expressed confidence that the participation of HBKU and NDU would provide the desired contribution and enhance awareness among young people about the importance of sports integrity.

He praised the State of Qatar's substantial support to the ICSS, which has become a global reference in leading international efforts to combat corruption and protect sports integrity worldwide, stressing that this aligns with Qatar's global leading position across various fields, including combating corruption and enhancing sports integrity.

He highlighted an agreement sealed in 2019 between Qatar Stars League (QSL) and SIGA , which aimed to promote collaboration, exchange expertise, and further develop the QSL.

He affirmed that SIGA participated an executive program on sport integrity co-organized by ICSS and Administrative Control and Transparency Authority in Qatar in October 2022. The program included lectures on sports integrity to raise awareness and provide the best practices that protect sports from corruption and establish integrity standards. (MORE)
