Tripoli: Al-Tarabulsi meets with security directors in the western and central regions to review the directorates' activities. The Minister of Interior of the Government of National Unity, Major General Emad Al-Tarabulsi, affirmed that security directorates are achieving tangible results in apprehending wanted individuals and solving cases, despite limited resources.

According to Libyan News Agency, this was discussed during an expanded meeting held at the headquarters of the General Directorate of Central Support. The meeting was attended by security directors and their deputies from the western and central regions, along with officers and non-commissioned officers from the Ministry of Interior. The Minister emphasized the Ministry's strategy to support regional security directorates and rely on local personnel, aiming to enhance stability and reduce dependence on militias.

Al-Tarabulsi noted that despite operating with only two vehicles in some instances, the directorates have successfully solved numerous cases and apprehended wanted individuals. He highlighted that several areas report no unsolved murders, an important security indicator, despite facing challenges such as the proliferation of armed groups and limited support.

The Minister also discussed the resource constraints faced by the directorates before 2022 and noted that since 2023, direct support in the form of vehicles and equipment has been provided. However, he acknowledged that this support remains insufficient to meet the ongoing challenges. The traffic police have contributed significantly to the public treasury, generating approximately 8.5 million dinars in traffic violation revenues in a single year, despite operating under difficult conditions with shortages of uniforms and equipment.

Al-Tarabulsi identified severe shortages of vehicles, weapons, uniforms, and detention facilities as the most significant challenges. He pointed out that some directorates contend with armed groups equipped with armored vehicles while having only police cars. The fight against smuggling, drug trafficking, and illegal immigration is hindered by inadequate support and limited prison capacity.

During the meeting, security directorates' activities from 2023 to 2025 were reviewed. Statistics showed 174,835 reports and complaints pending investigation and 151,456 reports referred to the Public Prosecution. Of the 123,240 individuals wanted in various cases, 122,808 were apprehended. The unsolved crimes numbered 38,734, with 9,791 crimes solved.

In terms of traffic safety, 4,075 traffic accidents resulted in 6,799 minor injuries and 424 suicides. Authorities seized 972 wanted vehicles, with 1,264 still at large, and recorded 584,771 traffic violations and misdemeanors.

The meeting concluded by emphasizing that the security results achieved reflect the significant efforts of the directorates despite limited resources. Some crimes have decreased due to organized criminal investigations, and the Ministry continues to support efforts to enhance police capabilities across regions, according to the Ministry of Interior.
