UNSMIL Reaffirms Commitment to Engage with Libyan House of Representatives

Benghazi:The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) has reiterated its dedication to engaging with the House of Representatives, its newly elected presidium, and all its members.

According to Libyan News Agency, the Mission announced its intentions in a statement on Thursday, highlighting its focus on advancing the UN-facilitated political roadmap. This initiative seeks to unify institutions, implement urgent reforms, and conduct elections within the agreed timeline set by the "mini-meeting" group on August 30.

The Mission expressed its commitment to collaborating with all relevant Libyan parties and international partners to achieve these objectives. It closely followed two sessions of the House of Representatives held in Benghazi earlier this week. During the first session on October 5, attended by 102 members, 98 voted to amend the House's internal regulations, approving a rotating presidency with a maximum term of 12 months.

In the subsequent session on October 6, attended by at least 111 members, a new presidium for the House was elected. The Mission acknowledged the election of Mr. Al-Sahin Abdul-Nabi as Speaker of the House, alongside the election of new presidium members.
