Washington:Libya and the United States have signed a strategic cooperation framework focusing on telecommunications, informatics, and technology. This agreement, finalized in Washington, D.C., is intended to expand bilateral cooperation and strengthen partnerships within the digital and technological sectors.
According to Libyan News Agency, the framework was signed by John Mills, the U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Cyberspace and Digital Policy, and Abdulbasit Al-Baour, Head of the General Authority for Telecommunications and Informatics in Libya. The agreement underscores a mutual commitment to advancing cooperation between the two nations, particularly in digital transformation and technology.
The Ministry of Telecommunications and Informatics highlighted that the framework includes areas such as digital infrastructure, artificial intelligence, data centers, cybersecurity, satellite communications, investment, and technology transfer. It also aims to foster institutional cooperation and coordination in international forums relevant to these fields.
Additionally, the framework presents opportunities to develop international connectivity infrastructure and leverage Libya's geographic position to support digital communication routes between Europe and Africa. This potential is expected to attract investment and drive project development in the telecommunications and technology sectors. The initiative aligns with the Government of National Unity's efforts, led by Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dbeibah, to expand international partnerships, support investment in technology, and enhance Libya's presence in the digital economy.
This strategic approach is also in line with the National Telecommunications and Informatics Strategy (2023-2027), which seeks to develop digital infrastructure, improve the telecommunications and informatics sector's efficiency, and strengthen Libya's role in the regional and international telecommunications and technology landscape.
