Tripoli: The United States announced its satisfaction with the renewed collaboration between representatives from Libya's eastern and western regions to enhance border security cooperation. This announcement follows a meeting of the Joint Technical Coordination Team for Libyan Border Security, which was facilitated by the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL). The U.S. emphasized its ongoing support for Libya's journey towards unity and stability.
According to Libyan News Agency, U.S. Senior Advisor for Arab and African Affairs Massad Boulos shared in a tweet that the meeting resulted in agreements to bolster joint border security efforts. This includes further operationalizing joint border security centers in the cities of Benghazi and Tripoli.
The meeting saw the participation of senior military and police officers from the Libyan National Army, the Ministry of Defense, and the Ministry of Interior. Commanders of the Border Guard components from both sides were also present, indicating a multi-faceted approach to the security discussions.
Massad Boulos also highlighted the United States' strong endorsement of Libya's progress towards national unity. He referenced the April joint participation in the Flintlock 26 military exercise and the establishment of a unified national budget as evidence of Libya's advancing cooperation and stability.
These developments are seen as encouraging signs of increasing collaboration among Libyan institutions, which contribute to enhancing security and stability along the nation's borders.
