Tripoli: On the occasion of International Youth Day, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Libya, Hannah Tetteh, engaged with over 40 young people in a meeting organized by the Youth Dialogue Forum in Tripoli. This event was part of a broader series of discussions aimed at addressing the political process in Libya.

According to Libyan News Agency, the meeting gathered young leaders from various regions across Libya, providing them a platform to voice their concerns and ideas about crafting a roadmap for the country's political future. The participants engaged in direct dialogue with Tetteh, exploring ways to ensure that youth perspectives are integrated into the forthcoming political phases.

During the meeting, Tetteh emphasized the pivotal role that Libyan youth must play in shaping their future. She highlighted that the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) had undertaken extensive consultations with diverse segments of Libyan society to assess their views on optimal solutions, dedicating a special focus on youth engagement.

Tetteh revealed that over 22,000 individuals participated in an online survey, with consultations involving an additional 2,500 people conducted either face-to-face or online. The UN envoy acknowledged that many Libyans, including the youth, have expressed significant distrust in Libyan institutions during this consultation period.

Looking ahead, Tetteh stressed the importance of prioritizing tasks necessary for conducting elections, aiming to reposition the Libyan populace at the core of the political process.
