The Chamber of Commerce and Industry in the capital Sana’a delivered a letter requesting the Yemeni private sector to the United Nations Special representative for Yemen, Hans Grundenberg, to move ships directly to Hodeida port without hindrance.
The letter emphasized that would save time, cost and effort currently expended in inspecting ships destined for Yemen by the UNVIM team of inspection and verification mechanisms in Djibouti.
That came during a meeting with Deputy Chairman of the Chamber’s Board of Directors for the Industry Sector, Hassan Ghaleb Al-Sayani, today in the Jordanian capital, Amman, with the Deputy Envoy to the United Nations, Mueen Shreim.
The meeting discussed the negative effects of imposing a pre-inspection process by the United Nations in the port of Djibouti on commercial ships carrying goods, medicines and other commodities before heading to Hodeida port.
The Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Chamber of Commerce indicated that the recent opening of Hodeida port to commercial shipping had a positive impact on the cost of food and consumer goods and the decrease in prices, which was felt by the Yemeni citizen.
For his part, the UN Deputy representative made positive promises to work on transferring the inspection to Hodeida, in order to alleviate the suffering of citizens and reduce prices further.
