Sabha University Hosts Panel on Advisory Committee Outcomes for United Nations Support Mission

Sabha: The Center for Strategic Studies at Sabha University, in collaboration with the Department of Political Science at the Faculty of Commerce and Political Science, organized a pivotal discussion panel titled “Outcomes of the Advisory Committee to the United Nations Support Mission: Between Reality and Implementation.” This event gathered academics, political experts, media professionals, civil society activists, and representatives from various local political movements to discuss the critical outcomes proposed by the Advisory Committee.

According to Libyan News Agency, the panel focused on four key outcomes aimed at concluding the transitional phase and establishing a stable political pathway for the country. These included the proposal to hold presidential and legislative elections following a preliminary phase, initiated by a political agreement leading to the formation of a new government to manage the transitional period.

Participants deliberated on the prospect of electing a legislative council responsible for drafting a permanent constitution. They also explored the proposal advocating for the adoption of the constitution before any electoral process, through a comprehensive political settlement ensuring institutional unification prior to embarking on a constitutional journey.

The fourth proposal discussed was the activation of political dialogue mechanisms based on the Constitutional Declaration and the Political Agreement. This would result in the formation of a Constituent Assembly and a unified executive authority tasked with specific objectives and a defined timeline culminating in legislative elections.

Abu Bakr Al-Mabrouk Bashir, Director of the Center for Strategic Studies at Sabha University, provided an analytical review, underscoring the practicality of these outcomes amidst prevailing political challenges and the impact of regional and international scenarios.

The panel concluded with recommendations to establish a unified executive authority to oversee the electoral process and eliminate obstacles to the constitutional referendum. Emphasis was placed on supporting a Libyan-led process, bolstering the role of official military and security institutions, and disbanding irregular armed groups to contribute to the country’s security and political stability.
