In its editorial under the title "Enhancing Road Safety," the English-language newspaper The Peninsula emphasized that Qatar's proactive approach to traffic regulation and safe driving, which underscores the importance of seatbelts and the prohibition of mobile phone use while driving, is a commendable step towards safer roads.
The newspaper anticipated that these measures, enforced through automated monitoring, would significantly reduce accidents, save lives, and make roads safer for everyone.
Furthermore, the newspaper cited warnings from the traffic directorate that the violation of using mobile phones while driving extends beyond holding the phone in hand and includes distractions caused by watching any visual material on the vehicle's TV screen, in accordance with Article 55 of the traffic law, which strictly prohibits the use of mobile phones or any other devices in any way while driving, whether by holding or operating them. The newspaper also cautioned against the misconception that using a mobile phone attached to a mount inside the car is not a violation, emphasizing that it is indeed a violation as soon as any screen displaying visual material distracts from the road.
In its editorial titled "The apartheid system and escalation policy," Al Sharq stated that the daily crimes committed by the Israeli occupation forces and the policies pursued by the extremist Israeli government under the leadership of Benjamin Netanyahu, reflect the nature of the abhorrent apartheid system. It argued that all discriminatory policies and actions of the Israeli entity constitute a form of apartheid, openly waged against the political and humanitarian existence of the Palestinian people in East Jerusalem and throughout the occupied territories. It underscored that the international community has failed to exert pressure for the enforcement of hundreds of resolutions in favor of the Palestinian cause, and not a single resolution has been implemented, revealing the double standards in place.
Al Sharq pointed out that what exacerbates the escalation policy pursued by the extremist right-wing Israeli government is the cover and protection provided by some major powers for the Israeli state and its violations and crimes, all while failing to hold it accountable, emphasizing that these major powers also bear full responsibility for the failure to enforce international law and uphold it, compelling the Israeli state to implement legitimate international resolutions.
In conclusion, Al Sharq expressed concern about the lack of hope and the absence of any political horizon for resolving the conflict that would restore the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, stressing that such a situation could lead to catastrophic scenarios, affecting everyone, with Israel at the forefront.
