Libya’s Culture Minister Engages in CHANDI 2025 Summit on Cultural Development in Bali

Bali: The Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development, Mabrouka Tougi, participated in the Ministerial Conference of the Culture, Heritage, Arts, Storytelling, Diplomacy, and Innovation Summit (CHANDI 2025), held in Bali, Indonesia. The summit marked the first international event organized by the Indonesian government under the theme "Culture for the Future."

According to Libyan News Agency, Tougi addressed the ministers of culture and representatives from participating countries, emphasizing Libya's commitment to culture as a core element of its strategic vision for comprehensive and sustainable development. She highlighted Libya's Vision 2050, aimed at building a knowledge-based society that values its national identity and contributes to modern human knowledge systems.

Tougi underscored the Ministry of Culture's efforts to establish culture as a fundamental pillar for future development by advancing cultural and creative industries. She noted the importance of culture in creating wealth and fostering a new economy centered on innovation and excellence.

The minister elaborated on Libya's active involvement in global efforts to shape a cultural vision beyond 2030, focusing on protecting cultural heritage, fostering peace, and tackling future challenges. She called for the summit to recognize culture as a strategic driver for sustainable development and social cohesion, stressing its resilience amid digital age complexities and geopolitical shifts.

Tougi highlighted the evolving political environment for culture, influenced by pressures affecting heritage and traditions, and the threats posed by conflicts and emergencies to cultural assets and social memory. She pointed out that while technological advancements enhance cultural access, they also raise ethical concerns about rights and diversity. The illicit trafficking of cultural property, she noted, further undermines trust and justice.

The minister reaffirmed Libya's support for initiatives promoting intercultural and intercivilizational dialogue, asserting that cultural exchange can transform societies by mitigating prejudice, reducing polarization, preventing conflicts, and enhancing mutual understanding.
