Tripoli: UN Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Acting Head of the UNSMIL, Stephanie Koury, engaged in discussions with a delegation from Gharyan regarding the current political landscape in Libya. The talks focused on opportunities and challenges facing the nation and their impact on citizens.
According to Libyan News Agency, the delegation comprised members of the House of Representatives, the High Council of State, the municipality, the University of Gharyan, and representatives of women and youth, along with other influential leaders. The delegation conveyed its perspectives on priorities for the UNSMIL-facilitated political process, emphasizing the necessity for national elections, the unification of institutions, and the establishment of a permanent constitution.
Koury acknowledged Gharyan's historical role in reconciliation efforts in Libya and recognized its significance as an educational hub. She expressed her intent to continue engaging with stakeholders across Libya to further these discussions and initiatives.
