Derna: Osama Hamad, the Prime Minister of the Libyan Government assigned by the House of Representatives, expressed his surprise at the announcement issued by the Republic of Greece on June 12, 2025, inviting international bids for licenses to explore and exploit hydrocarbons in marine areas south of the island of Crete. Hamad emphasized that some of these areas are within Libya's exclusive economic zone, granting Libya the right to explore and utilize resources there in accordance with the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.

According to Libyan News Agency, Hamad highlighted the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' statement regarding Greece's actions, calling for dialogue to resolve the issue. He warned that without dialogue, Libya might engage specialized companies to invest and explore these marine areas.

Hamad also mentioned that an agreement on the demarcation of maritime borders with Turkey had been submitted to the House of Representatives for review and ratification. Furthermore, a committee formed by the Council of Ministers is tasked with reviewing maritime border demarcation and all agreements since 2002, in line with international law, Libya's interests, and maintaining good diplomatic relations, particularly with Egypt, which has supported Libya on several occasions.
