Government Meeting in Rome to Address Libya Situation

Rome: A government meeting will be held at the Chigi Palace, the seat of the Italian government, this evening, Friday, with the attendance of the Prime Minister, Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, and relevant ministers. The meeting will address the situation in Libya.

According to Libyan News Agency, the Italian Nova News Agency, citing government sources, reported that this meeting is expected to contribute to assessing the situation that has been ongoing for weeks in the African country, both in relation to the clashes between some militias in Tripoli last month, and the flow of migrants to Italy.

The agency indicated that, according to the latest data issued by Frontex, the first five months of this year witnessed a 7% increase in migration departures from Libya. This figure contradicts the general trend of irregular migration, which recorded a 20% annual decline between January and May.
