Derna: A gang involved in counterfeiting 20-dinar local currency was arrested in the city of Derna. The Criminal Investigation Department, Derna branch, announced the arrest of the group after a citizen reported that counterfeit banknotes were being circulated inside a store in the city center.
According to Libyan News Agency, the department shared on its official Facebook page that the arrest was made following thorough field investigations. Security teams monitored the vehicle used by the gang and arrested the driver, subsequently identifying the remaining members of the gang.
The department confirmed that, in coordination with the Public Prosecution, the defendants' residences were searched. This led to the discovery of counterfeit currency worth 660 dinars, as well as suspected hashish and narcotic pills.
The department indicated that the seized items were confiscated and the defendants were placed in legal custody pending the completion of procedures and their referral to the Public Prosecution.
