Janzour: The Ministry of Interior of the Government of National Unity announced that it had thwarted a failed attempt to target the headquarters of the United Nations Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) by launching an SPG rocket that struck a house in the city of Janzour, without causing any damage.

According to Libyan News Agency, the Ministry released a statement on Thursday night highlighting the dangerous precedent of targeting international and diplomatic missions. This incident coincided with a briefing by the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Libya, Hanna Tetteh. In response, the Ministry of Interior developed a strict security plan to secure the headquarters of the UNSMIL and other diplomatic missions, coordinating with various security agencies.

The statement detailed the vigilance of police and security personnel, who successfully thwarted the attempt to target the UNSMIL headquarters with an SPG rocket. A 2003 Toyota Camry was seized, containing two additional rockets and the launcher used in the attack.

The Ministry has directed competent authorities to identify the suspects involved. Investigations are currently underway, with efforts to gather necessary information to arrest and bring the perpetrators to justice. The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring security, protecting public and private property, and securing the headquarters of international missions and embassies. It emphasized zero tolerance for criminals and outlaws, pledging to carry out its duties with professionalism and skill to promote security and stability and prevent violations.
