Tripoli: The Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity, Abdul Hamid Dabaiba, highlighted the significance of addressing electoral laws as a priority within the roadmap outlined by the UN envoy. Dabaiba pointed out that the UN envoy's briefing to the Security Council identified these laws as the primary obstacle hindering the electoral process since 2021, making their reform essential. He expressed support for the initial outlines of this roadmap, which were announced today.

According to Libyan News Agency, Dabaiba shared on his Facebook page that any roadmap aiming to advance elections and unify all institutions without exception is a positive step forward. He emphasized that the real challenge lies in raising awareness and ensuring the free will of Libyans is reflected in practical implementation. This will be achieved through a comprehensive national inquiry that guarantees every Libyan's voice is included in the election process, thereby identifying the necessary steps and priorities to conduct genuine elections that meet their aspirations.

Dabaiba reiterated his firm stance on directly proceeding to elections based on enforceable laws, deeming this approach as the sole solution to ending political division and realizing the will of the Libyan people. He welcomed agreements to terminate parallel bodies in line with the terms of the Political Agreement and its annexes, stressing that these should not serve as excuses to delay elections or obstruct public will.

He further noted that despite the existence of parallel institutions, the high turnout in recent municipal elections demonstrated the people's eagerness to renew their legitimacy. Dabaiba expressed that Libyans are unwilling to accept continued transitional phases and look to the Security Council to support the electoral process and hold accountable those who obstruct it.
