Tripoli: Aguila Saleh, Speaker of the House of Representatives, has expressed his support for the recent briefing by Hanna Tetteh, the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations to Libya and the Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya. The briefing was delivered before the UN Security Council on August 21, 2025.
According to Libyan News Agency, Aguila Saleh praised Tetteh's call for the establishment of a new unified government within two months. This step is aimed at paving the way for simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections in Libya. Saleh emphasized that the formation of a new government is crucial for unifying the executive authority and strengthening Libyan unity.
In his statement, Aguila Saleh reiterated his full support for the initiative, highlighting its importance in unifying state institutions and safeguarding national sovereignty. He noted that this move aligns with the aspirations of the Libyan people for security, development, and prosperity. Saleh also affirmed that the current government, which operates under the leadership of Osama Hamad, remains the legitimate government, having gained its confidence from the House of Representatives.
