New york: Head of the Presidential Council, Mohammed Al-Menfi, emphasized that any solution failing to return the political process to the Libyan people and not stemming from their free will risks futile repetition and failed experiments, in his speech before the United Nations General Assembly in New York yesterday.
According to Libyan News Agency, Al-Menfi's political vision for resolving the crisis in Libya hinges on four main pillars: restoring full national sovereignty, rejecting all forms of foreign interference, fostering sincere national dialogue, unifying sovereign institutions, and concluding the transitional phase with free and transparent elections. He insisted that these steps are crucial for Libya's political stability and emphasized the importance of Libyans choosing their rulers without external imposition.
Al-Menfi underscored that the blood of Libyans is a red line, and the unity of Libya's territory, sovereignty, and social fabric are non-negotiable. He highlighted the commitment of Libyan parties to the ceasefire agreement signed in October 2020, which has bolstered security and marked the current phase as one of the most stable in years.
He pointed out the exhaustion of traditional models in Libya, stressing the need for a review of previous approaches to avoid temporary solutions that have prolonged division. Al-Menfi also acknowledged the potential of the Libyan economy, despite challenges, and advocated for the unification of the budget and public spending to foster development.
On the topic of illegal immigration, Al-Menfi described it as a humanitarian challenge with economic roots, urging the international community to focus on development and job creation rather than narrow security measures. He called for a partnership with the African Union to address the issue effectively.
Al-Menfi reiterated Libya's unwavering stance on the Palestinian issue, condemning countries that maintain immoral neutrality regarding genocide and violations against Palestinians, especially in Gaza. He urged responsible international action to end the occupation and ensure Palestinian rights.
Concluding his remarks, Al-Menfi portrayed Libya as a nation of resilience, with a proud history, cohesive society, and abundant resources, aspiring to peace, democracy, and prosperity.
