Tarhona: The Agricultural Police - Tarhona Branch, in collaboration with the Director of the Forestry Office in the Agriculture Sector and the Director of the Agricultural Services Office in Souq al-Ahad, has initiated an extensive field campaign to curb attacks on three major forests: Khalfoun, Armila, and Maslat. These forests cover an estimated total area of approximately 260 hectares.
According to Libyan News Agency, the Agricultural Police stated the campaign was prompted by an official report from the Agriculture Sector in Tarhona, highlighting attacks within the city's administrative jurisdiction. The initiative includes field visits to assess the damage, document the attacks, and establish mechanisms to prevent recurrent violations impacting vegetation cover and protected areas.
During the campaign, forest patrols seized a well-drilling machine (Sonda), and apprehended the operator, who is now awaiting referral to the competent Public Order Prosecution. Legal measures are underway, and authorities continue to search for remaining perpetrators. The campaign's objective is to safeguard forests from illegal logging and encroachments, preserving the ecological balance and addressing violations of environmental and agricultural laws.
