African Union Ministers Meet in Tripoli for UN Security Council Reform Talks

Tripoli:The capital of Libya is hosting a meeting for ministers from the African Union's Committee of Ten (C10) on October 10-11, focusing on United Nations Security Council reform. This gathering is part of ongoing efforts to solidify Africa's stance on achieving fair representation on the Security Council.

According to Libyan News Agency, Libya's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Taher El-Sonni, announced that preparations for this ministerial meeting are underway. Libya and Sierra Leone, which coordinates the C10, co-chaired the final preparatory meeting, concentrating on the agenda and the draft "Tripoli 2026 Outcome Document."

El-Sonni, in a post on the "X" platform, stated that the meeting underscores the unified African position on Security Council reform. He highlighted that since the 2009 Sirte Declaration, Libya has been a leader in advocating for equitable African representation and addressing historical injustices against the continent.

The meeting aims to foster continued African coordination on Security Council reform and to discuss and adopt outcomes as outlined in the "Tripoli 2026 Outcome Document."
