UNSMIL Facilitates a Workshop in Benghazi.


Benghazi: UNSMIL facilitated yesterday a workshop in Benghazi on the role of civil society in security sector governance and disarmament, demobilization, and reintegration (DDR) approaches. The event was attended by civil society activists from across Libya, with significant participation from women and youth.

According to Libyan News Agency, the workshop aimed to enhance the understanding and involvement of civil society groups in the processes that contribute to national security and stability. Participants discussed strategies and shared experiences on how best to engage with the security sector to promote effective governance and reform.

The emphasis on the inclusion of women and youth highlighted the importance of diverse perspectives in fostering sustainable peace and development. This initiative is part of UNSMIL’s broader efforts to support Libya’s transition towards a stable and secure society by encouraging active civic engagement and collaboration in crucial sectors.
