UN Envoy and Arab League Secretary-General Discuss Political Developments in Libya


Cairo: The Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Libya, Hanna Tetteh, recently engaged in discussions with Ahmed Aboul Gheit, the Secretary-General of the Arab League, regarding the political situation in Libya. The meeting, which took place in Cairo, emphasized the urgency of expediting preparations for general elections in Libya.



According to Libyan News Agency, Tetteh provided Aboul Gheit with insights from her recent engagements with Libyan parties, underlining the significance of the Arab League’s role in furthering the political process for stability in Libya. The conversation also addressed the regional situation, highlighting the necessity of coordinated efforts between international and regional entities to achieve a comprehensive political resolution.



Aboul Gheit assured Tetteh of the Arab League’s unwavering support for the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL). He emphasized the importance of facilitating general elections by providing essential logistical and political backing. Furthermore, Aboul Gheit reiterated the League’s commitment to supporting all relevant Libyan parties to foster stability and advance a political roadmap that ensures national consensus.
