Third Russia-Africa Summit Begins with Focus on Development and Cooperation

Moscow:The third "Russia-Africa" Summit commenced in Moscow, bringing together Russian President Vladimir Putin, the Chairperson of the African Union, represented by the President of Burundi, Évariste Ndayishimiye, and the Chairman of the Libyan Presidential Council, Mohamed al-Menfi. Leaders and representatives from 48 African nations are attending the summit, which aims to enhance partnerships and expand cooperation between Russia and Africa.

According to Libyan News Agency, the summit's agenda for the first day includes discussions on economic development, agro-industry, education, medicine, artificial intelligence, technological cooperation, energy dialogue, nuclear technologies, and media. The day will conclude with a plenary session focused on international coordination and cooperation.

In his opening remarks, President Putin highlighted Africa's potential as a global hub for economy and politics, emphasizing Russia's commitment to supporting the continent's development rather than exploiting its resources. He noted that Russian companies contribute to Africa's growth and that Moscow is ready to share technical expertise in energy, industry, transportation, agriculture, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity.

Putin revealed that Russia has exported 13 million tons of food products to Africa in the first nine months of the year and that more than 30 energy projects are underway across 16 African countries. The summit aims to develop a joint action plan to deepen economic and investment partnerships, focusing on infrastructure, food security, and expanding technology and digital services to strengthen African sovereignty.

Alongside the summit, the Russia-Africa Economic and Humanitarian Forum is being held at the Gostiny Dvor complex in Moscow, gathering around 4,000 Russian and African business leaders to discuss mutually beneficial cooperation and enhance the capabilities of African nations. The first and second Russia-Africa Summits were held in Sochi in 2019 and St. Petersburg in 2023, respectively.
