Tripoli: The General Assembly of the Supreme Court has declared its unwavering commitment to reviewing the constitutionality of legislation enacted by the legislative authority through its Constitutional Chamber. This commitment is part of their duty to protect legal and constitutional legitimacy.
According to Libyan News Agency, the statement was issued in response to attempts at mediation that aim to obstruct the implementation of the court's rulings in constitutional appeals. The court emphasized that its role in reviewing legislation is grounded in constitutional principles that must remain inviolate. Any breach of these principles is seen as an attack on constitutional legitimacy, the separation of powers, and the independence of the judiciary.
The Supreme Court reiterated that its function as the apex of judicial authority is limited to adjudicating appeals and issuing final judgments. It underscored that engaging in negotiations or discussions outside its judicial duties would compromise the sanctity and integrity of judicial decisions. The court further asserted that it would not be influenced in any pending or decided cases and would ignore any attempts to undermine the authority of its rulings.
Moreover, the court warned against any legislative attempts to restructure the judiciary, stating that such actions would destabilize the judicial authority's foundations and compromise its unity.
