Paris: The Saudi-French Ministerial committee of the Intergovernmental Agreement of 10 April 2018, focusing on cultural, environmental, tourism, human, and economic development related to the AlUla Governorate of Saudi Arabia, convened for its second meeting on 15 November 2024 in Paris.According to Saudi Press Agency, the meeting was chaired by Saudi Minister of Culture and Governor of the Royal Commission for AlUla, Prince Badr bin Abdullah bin Farhan, alongside French Minister of Europe and Foreign Affairs, Jean-Noel Barrot. The meeting also included key figures such as Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, Saudi Minister of Investment Khalid Al-Falih, and Acting CEO of the Royal Commission for AlUla Abeer AlAkel. On the French side, attendees included French Minister of Culture Rachida Dati, French Minister of Economy, Finance and Industrial and Digital Sovereignty Antoine Armand, and Chairman of the French Agency for the Development of AlUla (AfAlUla) Jean-Yves Le Dri an.During the discussions, the ministers acknowledged the success of the Saudi-French partnership in AlUla, highlighting the cooperation achieved in cultural and human exchanges. They reviewed ongoing and future cooperation projects, emphasizing the progress of Villa Hégra, a joint cultural institution dedicated to the arts and culture of both nations, as detailed in the Intergovernmental Agreement of 4 December 2021.The committee also praised the success of the archaeological program in AlUla, which has involved approximately 150 French researchers and archaeologists since 2018. They noted the launch of a partnership between the Royal Commission for AlUla and Université Paris 1 Panthéon Sorbonne, and acknowledged the involvement of French companies in various projects, including the Tramway project by ALSTOM and the Sharaan Resort project designed by Jean Nouvel architectural firm and to be constructed by Bouygues.In conclusion, the committee members reiterated their commitment to enhancing the bilater al partnership for AlUla, aiming to elevate its impact and reinforce its cultural and historical identity.
