Tripoli:Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dbeibah of the Government of National Unity has emphasized the need for the Community of Sahel-Saharan States (CEN-SAD) to form a cohesive regional framework. This framework aims to confront shared political, security, and economic challenges, enhance coordination in combating terrorism, organized crime, and irregular migration, and support border security and regional stability for the benefit of the region's countries and peoples.

According to Libyan News Agency, Dbeibah articulated his aspirations during the opening of the 22nd Ordinary Session of the Executive Council of CEN-SAD in Tripoli. He called for practical steps towards expanding trade, encouraging joint investments, developing infrastructure, transportation, and energy projects. Furthermore, he emphasized strengthening cooperation in areas such as food security, combating desertification and climate change, to enhance the connection between North Africa and its African hinterland.

Dbeibah highlighted Libya's early recognition of the importance of such a regional framework and its initiative to establish CEN-SAD, based on a belief in African solidarity and integration. He proposed setting a timetable to relocate the Executive Secretariat to its headquarters in Tripoli, ensuring the smooth operation of the Community's bodies, and adopting a feasible work program with clear monitoring and evaluation mechanisms.

The Prime Minister underscored the significance of building effective regional partnerships among the countries of the region. He stated that holding the meeting in Tripoli marks a significant milestone in CEN-SAD's journey and provides an opportunity to strengthen communication among member states. Dbeibah also stressed that addressing the region's security, economic, and developmental needs requires a shift from coordination and consultation to effective collective action. He reiterated Libya’s commitment to supporting the group's progress and enhancing its capacity to face challenges, fulfilling the aspirations of the peoples of the region.
