Sebha University Engages in Mediterranean Universities Union Meeting

Tripoli: Sebha University participates in the annual meeting of the Mediterranean Universities Union in Calabria, Italy. A delegation from the University of Sebha, headed by the university's president, Dr. Masoud Amhamed Al-Raqiq, participated in the annual general assembly meeting of the Union of Mediterranean Universities (UNIMED), which was held in the Italian city of Calabria from July 8 to 10, 2025.

According to Libyan News Agency, the meeting was attended by representatives from universities from more than 25 countries bordering the Mediterranean. Participants discussed issues related to strengthening academic and scientific cooperation between higher education institutions in the region.

The agenda included presentations and lectures addressing academic exchange opportunities between member universities, a review of current and future projects planned for implementation within the framework of the union, and a discussion on the financial challenges facing the union. Networking sessions were organized between university representatives to expand horizons for bilateral and multilateral cooperation.

The meeting also voted on the admission of new universities to the union, including the University of Fezzan and the University of Wadi Al-Shati, and decided on the host for the union's next meeting.

The University of Sebha's participation in this international forum is part of its ongoing efforts to enhance its regional and international presence and establish strategic partnerships with leading academic institutions. This will contribute to the development of the educational and research process and open broader horizons for students and academics to benefit from diverse scientific experiences.
