Al-Qunfudhah: The National Center for Vegetation Cover Development and Combating Desertification (NCVC) has started an ambitious project to restore Hali Wildlife Park in Al-Qunfudhah Governorate, in the Makkah Region. The project is part of the Saudi Green Initiative and aims to increase the vegetation cover and promote sustainable environmental goals.According to Saudi Press Agency, the project entails growing 90,000 native and wild trees such as Acacia nilotica, Vachellia tortilis, Tamarix aphylla, Vachellia seyal, Balanites aegyptiaca, Maerua crassifolia, Delonix elata, Salvadora persica, Leptadenia pyrotechnica, and Acacia nilotica. The trees will cover approximately 6 million square meters and will be irrigated with water sourced from nearby dams. A 6-kilometer pipeline will be constructed to channel water from the Wadi Hali Dam to the park.Hali Wildlife Park is renowned for its scenic landscapes and diverse vegetation, as well as by its proximity to the Wadi Hali Dam Lake, which makes it an appealin g destination for local and international visitors. The center's afforestation projects contribute to the development of green spaces in the Kingdom, creating wildlife habitats, preserving native plant species at risk of extinction, lowering temperatures, improving air quality, and controlling sand encroachment.NCVC, the release said, is dedicated to enhancing, protecting, and managing vegetation sites through sustainable management of rangelands, forests, and national parks, detecting violations concerning vegetation, combating illegal logging, and safeguarding natural resources and biodiversity.
