Benghazi: The National Center for Disease Control, appointed by the House of Representatives, has denied recent reports suggesting a spike in pulmonary tuberculosis cases in Benghazi. The center clarified that the information circulating in some media outlets and on social media platforms is misleading, and the numbers do not represent the true epidemiological situation.
According to Libyan News Agency, the center stated that the reported figure of 3,082 cases is incorrect. The actual registered number of cases to date is 366, which includes both active and inactive cases among Libyans and non-Libyans. The center assured that epidemiological surveillance teams are actively monitoring the situation in accordance with established standards.
The surveillance efforts involve categorizing cases based on their treatment status, whether they are receiving home treatment, have discontinued treatment, or are among foreign residents. The National Center for Disease Control emphasized its commitment to monitoring those infected and providing necessary healthcare in line with approved protocols. The public was urged not to be swayed by rumors or inaccurate reports.
Furthermore, the center called for accuracy in media reporting and advised social media users to seek information from official sources. This caution is aimed at preventing unnecessary anxiety and confusion among citizens.
