Minister of Oil and German Ambassador Discuss Energy Cooperation


Tripoli: The Minister of Oil and Gas in the Government of National Unity, Khalifa Rajab Abdul-Sadig, held a meeting with the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Libya, Ralph Joseph Tarraf, to strengthen bilateral cooperation in energy and energy transition.

According to Libyan News Agency, the meeting reviewed the progress made by the Government of National Unity in implementing plans for a fair and sustainable energy transition. This includes initiatives like the “Energy Generation” program, which aims to achieve a balanced mix of traditional and renewable energy sources.

During the meeting, the Minister affirmed the Ministry’s commitment to diversifying Libya’s energy sources, with a goal of achieving an integrated energy mix of oil, gas, and renewable energy by 2035. This vision includes investing in modern technologies and developing young talent to optimize the utilization of the country’s natural resources and create job opportunities.

The discussion also covered enhancing the business e
nvironment in the oil sector, increasing production, and reducing gas flaring rates with a target of complete cessation by 2030. Additionally, it focused on developing gas industries and expanding export opportunities to European markets.

The Minister highlighted Libya’s openness to international investment in the energy sector and its intent to build strategic partnerships to support both local and international market stability. He emphasized Libya’s readiness to effectively utilize its resources for a sustainable energy future.
