Local Government Collaborates with Italian Embassy on Water Management Project


Tripoli: The Ministry of Local Government of the Government of National Unity held a meeting with the Italian Embassy in Libya to discuss the implementation of the ‘Water Resources Management at the Municipal Level’ project. The primary goal of the meeting was to enhance cooperation and improve the efficiency of water management at the local level.



According to Libyan News Agency, the meeting focused on reviewing the provisions of the agreement and the practical mechanisms for its implementation. This was aimed at ensuring the project achieves its objectives and helps municipalities improve their water resource management according to their needs.



Participants explored ways to develop the project further by introducing new proposals to support its various phases and improve outcomes. This initiative is expected to enhance service efficiency for citizens and elevate the standard of local governance.



The discussion also highlighted the importance of exchanging technical expertise and learning from successful experiences to bolster local development programs and improve basic services.



The meeting, held at the Ministry’s headquarters in Tripoli, included key figures such as Abdul Salam Al-Qadi, Director of the International Cooperation and Organizations Affairs Office, Deputy Italian Ambassador Riccardo Villa, the First Secretary of the Italian Embassy, a representative from the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS), and the Project Advisor and Director. Other attendees included Walid Salhoub, Advisor to the International Cooperation Office, Mohammed Suwaid, representative of the International Cooperation Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, along with representatives from the Legal Affairs Department and the International Cooperation and Organizations Affairs Office at the Ministry.



This collaborative effort is part of ongoing initiatives to strengthen international cooperation between Libya and Italy and to activate partnerships that support sustainable development, particularly in sectors critical to citizens’ lives.
