Libyans Demand Accountability and Elections in Recent Survey

Tripoli: The results of the "Give Your Opinion" survey outline the most prominent demands of Libyans within the framework of structured dialogue. The survey, initiated by the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), reveals significant public demand for enhanced accountability, the eradication of corruption, credible national elections, the establishment of legitimate and unified institutions, and a reduction in the influence of armed groups.

According to Libyan News Agency, the full results of the poll, published on UNSMIL's official website and conducted both online and via telephone between December 2025 and April 2026, highlight the views of Libyans on these critical issues. The poll was conducted alongside youth-led discussions on the Mission's digital youth platform, further supporting the four tracks of the structured dialogue.

The survey results show that a substantial 82 percent of respondents support excluding individuals involved in corruption or human rights violations from public office. Accountability emerged as a top priority, with 90 percent of participants advocating for national elections as an essential step towards creating legitimate and stable institutions.
