Libyan Parliamentary Delegation Engages in Key Discussions at Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly in Istanbul

Istanbul: A delegation from the Libyan House of Representatives is actively participating in the work of the General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in Istanbul. Led by First Deputy Speaker Fawzi Al-Nuwairi, and including Dr. Sultana Al-Mismari and Dr. Rabia Abu Ras, the delegation took part in the closing session of the 152nd Assembly and the 217th Governing Council held in Istanbul, Turkey.

According to Libyan News Agency, Al-Nuwairi, who serves as Chairman of the Standing Committee on United Nations Affairs of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, presented the committee's final report. The report underscored the discussions on the role of the UN Resident Coordinator and her team in enhancing collaboration with the Turkish government and parliament.

Several sessions were devoted to a proposed amendment to the UN Charter, submitted by a civil society coalition, titled "Article 109: Renewal of the UN Charter." These discussions focused on empowering the UN to address contemporary challenges, and the election of new members to the committee's bureau took place.

The work of the Governing Council was also reviewed, including reports on human rights and the activities of various committees and bodies. The election of the Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union was conducted, with the Libyan parliamentary delegation actively participating in the voting process.
