Libya, Egypt, and Chad Discuss Enhanced Counterterrorism Cooperation

Cairo:The Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Taher Al-Baour, met with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and Chadian Foreign Minister Ahmed Kougori to discuss strengthening coordination among Libya, Egypt, and Chad in efforts to combat terrorism and transnational organized crime. The meeting also focused on supporting security and stability in the Sahel and Sahara region and reviving the Community of Sahel-Saharan States (CEN-SAD) to resume its institutional functions.

According to the Libyan News Agency, the trilateral meeting took place in Cairo, Egypt, where the ministers addressed various shared concerns, particularly the security challenges affecting the region. They explored enhancing cooperation and consultation on political, security, and development matters.

The official page of the Egyptian Foreign Ministry reported that the ministers emphasized the importance of activating CEN-SAD and utilizing its capabilities to advance cooperation among member states in peace, security, counterterrorism, and irregular migration. They also discussed bolstering security capacity-building efforts to tackle common regional challenges.

The ministers agreed on the necessity of convening a CEN-SAD ministerial meeting at the earliest opportunity, setting the stage for a summit of heads of state and government. This summit aims to reinstate the organization's activities, enhancing its role in promoting security, stability, and regional cooperation.

The meeting concluded with a commitment to ongoing coordination and consultation among Libya, Egypt, and Chad on security, political, and development issues. This collaboration is intended to strengthen the region's capacity to address shared challenges and support development and integration efforts among CEN-SAD member states.
