Libya and EU Strengthen Partnership for Renewable Energy and Economic Diversification

Tripoli: Libya’s Ministry of Oil and the European Union Delegation have reached an agreement to channel existing programs towards bolstering renewable energy, climate initiatives, and economic diversification. This strategic alignment aims to fulfill mutual objectives of sustainable growth in Libya and improved energy security across Europe.

According to Libyan News Agency, this development emerged from a meeting in Tripoli between Libya’s Oil Minister Khalifa Abdul Sadiq Al-Sadig and Nicola Orlando, the European Union Ambassador to Libya. The discussions focused on collaboration opportunities in the energy sector between Libya and the European Union.

Ambassador Nicola Orlando emphasized in a tweet that the meeting builds on the momentum generated by last week’s conference centered on a fair and sustainable energy transition. He highlighted the discussions on the detrimental effects of oil smuggling on Libya’s economy and the necessity for robust domestic reforms supported by international cooperation to tackle this issue.

Furthermore, the ambassador pointed out that the engagement of youth and women will be pivotal in the collaborative efforts of Libya and the EU, aiming to create a sustainable and prosperous future for both parties.
