Tripoli: Heavy rainfall has struck the capital city of Tripoli and other western regions, prompting warnings for citizens to stay indoors due to strong winds and torrential rain. The severe weather, resulting from a strong low-pressure system, has caused flooding on roads and water accumulation in low-lying areas and residential neighborhoods throughout the region.According to Libyan News Agency, the National Meteorological Center has issued advisories urging residents of Tripoli and its eastern areas to remain inside until tomorrow morning to avoid the dangers posed by the heavy rains and strong winds. The situation has prompted the Minister of Water Resources in the Government of National Unity, Hosni Oweidan, to instruct emergency teams to be on high alert. These teams are tasked with monitoring dams, tracking water levels, and ensuring the readiness of operating and drainage systems.The Tripoli General Services Company has been actively working to pump out rainwater and clear blockages in several city streets to mitigate the impact on traffic flow. The company has raised its preparedness level and is focusing on continuous monitoring of critical areas to maintain public safety and service quality.Meanwhile, the Tripoli Security Directorate has issued an urgent warning to citizens, advising caution during the coming hours and recommending against travel unless absolutely necessary. The Directorate has cautioned drivers about the hazards of driving on highways and coastal roads due to high winds and waves, and has urged adherence to safe speed limits and avoidance of flooded roads.Residents living near wadis and in low-lying areas have been advised to take extra precautions, especially when traveling at night, to ensure their safety amidst the adverse weather conditions.
