GASGI Praises UN Approval for Kingdom to Host UN Global Geospatial Ecosystem Center of Excellence

The General Authority for Survey and Geospatial Information (GASGI) has praised the unanimous approval by the UN Committee of Experts on Global Geospatial Information Management (UN-GGIM) for Riyadh to host the headquarters of the UN Global Geospatial Ecosystem Center of Excellence.

The center will help look at the future of geospatial data management in modern and innovative ways, boost global partnership and provide world countries with the mechanisms and methods of utilizing different geospatial data to achieve growth, spur innovation and sustainable development, and help geospatial decision making.

This is the third UN center supervised by the UN-GGIM, after the UN Global Geospatial Knowledge and Innovation Center in China and the UN Global Geodetic Center of Excellence in Germany.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's GASGI was elected Chair of the Arab Committee of the UN-GGIM at the first meeting of the Arab Committee, held in Riyadh in February 2015; the Kingdom was re-elected as Chair and Secretary of the UN-GGIM during the sixth meeting of the Arab Committee, which was held in Jeddah in February 2019.
