Ajdabiya: A gang of African nationals was arrested for tampering with Libyan identity cards and forging official documents. The Criminal Investigation Department of the Ajdabiya Security Directorate apprehended a dangerous group composed of Sudanese and Chadian nationals.
According to Libyan News Agency, the directorate revealed that two members of the gang had previously been sentenced to deportation from Libya in 2023 on charges of illegal immigration and illicit gains. The group was involved in multiple criminal activities within Ajdabiya, including the smuggling of four-wheel-drive vehicles. These vehicles, equipped with forged Libyan identity cards and false registration procedures, were transported to neighboring countries via the southern border and used to facilitate the entry of illegal African migrants into Libya.
The directorate's statement highlighted that, apart from document forgery and tampering with Libyan identity documents, several birth certificates, national ID numbers, and family status records belonging to legitimate Libyan citizens were seized. These documents were acquired without the knowledge of the rightful owners through intermediaries in exchange for money.
The Ajdabiya Security Directorate confirmed that all necessary legal measures had been taken against the gang members, who have been referred to the competent authorities for further proceedings.
