EU Hosts Dialogue Session on Women’s Role in Libyan Media


Tripoli: The European Union delegation is organizing a dialogue session on the role of women in media and fact-checking. Ahead of International Women’s Day, the European Union Delegation to Libya hosted a media dialogue session at an Iftar dinner, where the EU Ambassador met with female journalists, fact-checkers, and media professionals. This gathering was part of a series of initiatives by the Delegation aimed at promoting media freedom.



According to Libyan News Agency, the dialogue highlighted the increasing role of women in Libya’s media sector, focusing on their contributions to journalistic integrity, especially in professional journalism and fact-checking. Participants underscored the importance of women’s work in media as vital for safeguarding freedom of expression and ensuring that citizens have access to reliable and independent information, thereby enhancing public trust in the media.



The session also reinforced the collective commitment to nurturing a free and dynamic media environment, viewed as a crucial component of a robust democratic system that can effectively address various challenges.



International Women’s Day, observed on March 8th, is a global occasion recognizing women’s social, political, and economic achievements, advocating for their rights, and promoting gender equality. It serves as an opportunity to amplify women’s voices and reiterate the commitment to advancing their roles across different sectors, amidst ongoing efforts to tackle the challenges women face worldwide.
