Tripoli: Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dbeibah of the Government of National Unity inaugurated the 29th session of the General Assembly of the Arab Industrial Development, Standardization and Mining Organization (AIDMO), hosted in Tripoli at the ministerial level.
According to Libyan News Agency, delegations from 21 Arab countries participated in the session, alongside the Director General of AIDMO, Adel Al-Saqr, ministers of industry, and senior officials from member states. In his opening remarks, Dbeibah highlighted the importance of the session being held in Tripoli, emphasizing that Arab cooperation is essential for development and that economic integration is a necessity due to rapid economic changes.
He advocated for transitioning from exchanging visions to establishing practical partnerships and launching joint Arab initiatives and investments to stimulate growth, create jobs, and bolster economic security in Arab countries. Dbeibah reiterated that the National Unity Government is committed to diversifying the national economy by enhancing the industrial sector, improving the investment climate, revitalizing industrial zones, leveraging mineral resources, encouraging manufacturing industries, and supporting the private sector. He stressed that the future of Arab industry relies on integrating expertise, policy convergence, and expanding joint investments to boost the competitiveness of Arab economies.
The session also marked the launch of the Arab Platform for Industrial Indicators, a strategic initiative aimed at creating a unified Arab database of industrial indicators to support policy development, decision-making, and provide accurate measures of industrial performance in Arab countries. Discussions during the working sessions addressed initiatives to accelerate digital transformation and expand the use of artificial intelligence in industry, standardization, and mining to enhance productivity and competitiveness.
Participating ministers and delegation heads emphasized the need to strengthen joint Arab action to tackle economic and industrial challenges, develop cooperation in industry, standardization, and mining, and adopt digital transformation and artificial intelligence as strategies to modernize the Arab industrial sector. They praised Libya for hosting the session and viewed the launch of the Arab Platform for Industrial Indicators as a crucial step toward unifying industrial data, supporting decision-making, and enhancing economic and industrial integration among Arab countries.
