Dbeibah Initiates Probe into Cocaine Shipment Bound for Libya

Tripoli: The Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity, Abdul Hamid Dbeibah, has directed the relevant authorities to launch an urgent investigation into the seizure of a cocaine shipment aboard a vessel bound for a Libyan port. The shipment was intercepted in the Atlantic Ocean by Spanish authorities.

According to Libyan News Agency, an official letter issued by the Cabinet Office and published today, Wednesday, by the government's official platform, outlined that several relevant bodies, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Customs Authority, and the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol), have been tasked with taking necessary measures. These measures include communicating with the competent authorities in the Kingdom of Spain to gather information and data related to the incident.

The instructions also highlighted the need for coordination with the Libyan Embassy in Madrid. This coordination aims to monitor the progress of the investigation and to ensure that all necessary legal measures are taken regarding the incident to reveal its circumstances and determine responsibilities.

The government emphasized the importance of this case, noting that it will be treated with utmost seriousness. This initiative is part of the broader efforts to combat organized crime and prevent the use of Libyan territory as a destination or transit point for drug trafficking operations.
