Tripoli: The Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity, Abdul Hamid Dabaiba, emphasized the importance of the municipal elections that commenced in 26 municipalities. Dabaiba described this event as a crucial step towards building a democratic state.

According to Libyan News Agency, Dabaiba shared his views through a tweet on his official account on X, highlighting that these elections demonstrate the citizens' awareness and their desire to shape their own future by selecting those who will manage their local affairs, thereby supporting popular participation.

Dabaiba noted that the elections reflect the citizens' awareness in making decisions about their destiny and choosing the best path for state-building. However, he also expressed regret over the hindrances faced in the electoral process in some municipalities, labeling the obstruction of citizens from voting as unacceptable. He remarked that this poses a challenge for those responsible for conducting the elections, whether they be parliamentary or presidential in the future.

The Prime Minister reaffirmed his commitment to direct elections as the sole strategic approach for achieving stability. He asserted that direct elections are the only viable option to unify the nation and conclude the prolonged transitional phases that have burdened both the country and its citizens.

These developments occur as several municipalities in Libya conduct local elections aimed at renewing legitimacy at the local level, with calls from officials and the public to ensure transparency and comprehensive implementation across all regions.
