Tripoli: Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity, Abdul Hamid Dabaiba, discussed with the Ambassador of the Italian Republic, Gianluca Alberini, aspects of cooperation between Libya and Italy on political and economic issues, and efforts to activate joint projects to strengthen partnerships in development, investment, and services.
According to Libyan News Agency, the government's media office stated that the meeting reviewed the latest developments in the Libyan political situation and the efforts of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL). During the meeting, Dabaiba stressed the importance of supporting the national process based on consensus and creating appropriate conditions for holding elections according to agreed-upon legal principles.
Dabaiba expressed his appreciation for the Italian Senate's ratification of the agreement concerning the transfer of persons sentenced to custodial sentences between Libya and Italy. This agreement, signed in Palermo on September 29, 2023, between Minister of Justice Halima Ibrahim and Italian Minister of Justice Carlo Nordio, is seen as a step towards strengthening judicial and humanitarian cooperation between the two countries.
The Italian ambassador affirmed his country's commitment to developing cooperation with Libya in various fields and reiterated Italy's support for efforts aimed at achieving stability and development.
