Central Bank of Libya and Unity Government Address Financial Stability in Tripoli

Tripoli: A meeting between the Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity, Abdulhamid Dabaiba, and the Governor of the Central Bank of Libya, Naji Mohammed Issa, concentrated on monitoring the financial situation and efforts to ensure cash availability and improve banking services.

According to Libyan News Agency, the Central Bank stated that the meeting, held at the Prime Minister's office, addressed coordination with the Ministry of Economy and Trade on the opening of letters of credit. This initiative aims to support economic stability, meet market needs, curb speculation in the parallel market, and prevent the smuggling of currency and goods abroad. Furthermore, the meeting focused on regulating import activities through official channels and tightening controls on money laundering and terrorism financing.

Both parties emphasized the importance of coordinating efforts and fully supporting the Central Bank of Libya's initiatives to address speculative activities and challenges within the banking sector. They also highlighted the significance of continuing the "Your Salary Instantly" program to facilitate timely salary payments to citizens and reduce budgetary waste. The program's implementation by all sectors without exception was stressed as a priority.

Governor Naji Mohammed Issa reaffirmed the Central Bank's commitment to resolving liquidity bottlenecks in line with its established plan. He emphasized taking necessary measures to ensure liquidity regularity, improve banking services, and enhance electronic payment services for citizens.
