Arab Security Media Agencies Conference Concludes with Key Recommendations

Tunis: The Arab Conference of Heads of Security Media Agencies concluded in Tunisia, under the chairmanship of the Interior Ministry of the Government of National Unity. The 17th session of this conference was held in the Tunisian capital, Tunis, and led by Brigadier General Dr. Mohamed Abu Abdullah, who represented the Ministry of Interior of the Government of National Unity. Heads and officials of security media agencies from the Ministries of Interior of various Arab countries participated in the event.

According to Libyan News Agency, the conference resulted in several important recommendations aimed at enhancing Arab cooperation and advancing the security media framework across Arab nations. A central focus of the conference was the necessity of engaging new generations through digital platforms. This engagement would involve the use of short videos with compelling visual content to raise awareness about the dangers of cybercrime, extremism, terrorism, and addiction.

The conference emphasized the role of educational and media institutions in fostering digital literacy among children and youth, thereby enhancing their safe use of the internet. It also highlighted the potential benefits of artificial intelligence in security media, urging Arab security media outlets to incorporate AI applications in their productions. This adoption would improve the quality and appeal of security media content while saving time, effort, and financial resources.

The discussions also included monitoring and analyzing online media discourse through AI to detect extremist and violent rhetoric and to counter various criminal practices. The conference reviewed the experiences of several Arab countries in utilizing security media to combat terrorism, calling for the development of legislative frameworks that balance media coverage of terrorism issues with freedom of opinion and expression.

In terms of media use for security awareness and crime prevention, the conference urged media outlets to effectively plan the use of digital platforms in this domain. This includes the production of engaging media content aimed at preventing cybercrime and targeting specific audience segments, particularly the youth. The conference also advocated for the use of official police websites and social media pages to engage with the public on security issues.

The conference called for the coordination among member states to enhance the exchange of experiences and expertise among Arab security media outlets. Celebrating Arab Police Day to intensify security awareness and crime prevention programs was also encouraged, alongside the request for the General Secretariat to work with media sectors within the League of Arab States to unify efforts in crime prevention.
